Books Books Books

We are finishing up our packing this week. I am thinking about sending books separately through the post office in a Book Bag which is cheaper, but takes alittle longer. As I pick up each book and try to decide if I should take it or not it is a struggle.

I like to read, and at times I like to re-read a good book. But do I really need to have my favorite books with me? Which ones do I take? For sure a couple of medical references, Where There Are No Doctors and Tropical Diseases, a book on Plants and Animals of East Africa, our favorite Bibles and devotional books. Then some books I am reading or plan to read.

What I am really challenged with is that I just like having books around. Is that a reason to take them with me, I guess not. Books make me feel comfortable, relaxed, at peace, at home. But that is not what this journey is about, my comfort.

So, I will go through them again and weed out more of them to leave here. I need to let go of some things so I can be ready to embrace some new things, and that I think does include books. Part of the adventure will be to discover new books in suprising places.

deciding what to take and leave (especially books) was the hardest part when i left for Slovakia the first time, especially since it was only for a year. my mother actually cut my copy of "1000 places to see before you die" in half so i could just take the Europe section :)
now that we're married, micah and I are dreading the process of sorting our books.
