What's cooking?

The favorite meal for most Tanzanians is nyama choma or meat roasted over the fire. So Ron and his kaka or brother Jim went to work and built this jiko or grill in our front yard by the bonda.

We had our first American nyama choma with hamburgers and hot dogs and it was a real treat. But what meat do they roast here? N'gombe or beef is a favorite (not hamburger), or they also enjoy kuku or chicken.

But another common food is mbuzi or goat. We have been served roasted goat which is special; to bless us, at a sharehe or party, or thanking us for helping in their communities after the immunization clinics. Some of it has been good and some has been cold and tough and hard to eat. It has a very strong greasy smell. And that is all you get, just meat. When finished eating you are given a warm bottle of soda to wash it down with.

I don't think twice before eating it. It is interesting what you can do when someone is sharing with you from their heart. But . . . you probably won't see a mbuzi roasting on this jiko!

I don't know who else to ask, so I will ask you, do you know of any place I can get a Kiswahili Children's Presentation Bible? I am trying to find one to have a friend of mine take to my Sponsored Son in TZ, and all I have been able to find is an adult (and large and heavy) Bible. Since my sponsored son is only 6ish, I want one that is more "fun" for him, but will also grow with him. I got my Bolivian Sponsored Daughter a Spanish NIV with a pink, sparkling cover so something along those lines is what I am looking for for my sponsored Son...not the pink, but the child-suited color, and the lovely full page illustrations interspersed with the text.
Any help you can give would be appreciated!
God Bless you!
