Beautifully sad

During a recent trip out into a rural area of Tanzania for a mobile immunization clinic, we got to experience both the beauty and the sadness of this place. On the drive we saw the acacia trees against the backdrop of the deep blue sky. This is what I had always imagined Africa to be like.

We set up the clinic which included weighing the babies from a limb of one of those terrific acacia trees. So the women came in their colorful dress for the preventive care that is rare in this part of the country.

Here you see a local nurse along with Dr Suzie giving shots. The staff are all volunteers from a nearby village clinic and the doctor is the medical director with CMF who is based in the states but was visiting.

Then we saw another part of Africa I had imagined, 3 malnourished babies that needed hospitalization for survival. The moms just did not have enough to eat with the drought to have the needed breast milk. So they were directed to the closest hospital for help.
This country with all of its contrasts is so so beautiful and can be so so sad.

Hey Jane Ann -
I appreciated your posts. I can imagine the contrast between the beauty of creation and the heartache of suffering is extreme. I am so glad that you are there, leaning on God to help make a difference in so many lives. I pray God gives you the right words and actions to be a soothing presence where it's so much needed! Hugs!
