We are so thankful for the people that have opened their homes for us and those who will before we go. We would not be able to prepare for what is next without their help.
In the past I have thought of my home as the place we lived, where my rocking chair and tea cups and fireplace were, where the familiar things of my life were, where I had this sense of security. As we move to different places we are starting to develop a new definition of home.
It is evolving from being a place to becoming our travels, the preparations and dreams for the future, those people we are with, the joys we discover, the challenges we face, and definitely the laughter. Of course we are still taking some familiar things with us like our pillows and pictures and pills- HA!! But as we read in a poem recently, this JOURNEY is our home.
Right now, today, here is a picture of one of the joys we have in the place we stay. Each morning Athena comes to greet us and help us enjoy this trek, this journey which is now our home.

I remember feeling this same way after we had adjusted to China. One day I woke up realizing THIS was my home-at least for a while. It is liberating, to some degree, to know that things & an actual physical spot do not have to define where you call home. I am looking forward to that again as I transition from Iowa to North Carolina and then on to India in a year. Who knows-maybe we will retire to an RV full time and call that home. Ha!
I will be looking forward to the time I visit your home in Africa! Love, Nancy
The above comment is signed in as mom since I usually reply to Rebecca. Ha! Nancy
