What TRIBE do you belong to?

Ron and I are in the midst of intense training to prepare us for living and working in another culture. We are outside of Monument Colorado at Mission Training International, with 49 other adults and kids that are in the same boat.

Since we quit our jobs, sold our home, and moved our home base back to Colorado leaving new friendships and reconnecting with old friends, I was feeling like a bit of an alien. I was not sure where or if I belonged to anything now. I was warned that this is common, but I was still trying to figure it out.

Then we got here and one of the first things I heard was this group of people you are with is your tribe now. A tribe is defined as a group of people with something in common such as customs, ancestry, beliefs, leadership, occupation, viewpoint, or background. As days have passed I am realizing that yes, this group of missionaries is my new tribe now. People on the same journey.

But, I am also thinking about the other tribes I have belonged to in the past, and ones I will always belong to. Some people I have had just one unforgettable experience with and others that I continue to share life with. The common thing brings you together but it is really about the people.

I am excited to become part of my new tribe but am also treasuring the memories I have made with other tribes in my life.
