july 4th fun

We have to make a special effort to celebrate our American Holidays, like the 4th of July. This year we were at the Wash's home with their family and friends, and an American Flag made out of legos.

And of course no party with kids is complete without sparklers, who ever found those. This is Oleg enjoying the fun.

Me & some of the girls, Heather and Tami. I look like the mom with her middle school kids, yikes.

Eating under the banda, not a tradition in the US but it is here.

Ok, here is my gift from a Tanzanian friend, my chicken. I think I was supposed to take it and deal with it, but that is what I have other Tanzanian friends for :)

Robert our school cook graciously took things in hand and here he is cutting the chickens throat, again I should know how to do this.

And now he is plucking the feathers after dipping it in hot water. Then he cleaned it and Ruth fried it to take to picnic. Not exactly like southern fried chicken, but it was good.

Happy Freedom Celebration America!
