We get 2 Easter celebrations in Ethiopia, March 23rd for us foreigners, they call us farangi, and April 27th for locals.
Yesterday Ron and I went to BEZA, a national church that has services in both Amheric an English, and had a wonderful time of worship. We were 2 of the few farangis attending.
The service started with familiar praise music but with African flair. Then dancers and children singing took the stage. Finally 1 1/2 hours later - the message. In II Chronicles 33:12 God listens to wicked King Manesseh when he humbled himself. God's redeeeming love shown by the gift of His son on the cross is for everyone who humbles themselves. That is His amazing love!
Then off to The Denver Cafe (check out the picture on flickr), with friends for lunch. Not the best food or the best service, language barrier and no electricity did not help, but 2 hours later we left with some fun memories.
What more could we ask for in Ethiopia on farangi Easter.
