Soul Care?

We hear about taking care of our bodies; food, exercise, sunscreen, sleep, vitamins, seat belts, immunizations, lots of water, pollution, chemicals, germs, check-ups. It goes on and on. I have paid more attention lately to my body and what I need to do to take care of it. I want to be in this life as an active participant, not a bystander. And at 50 I need to do things to keep my body in good working condition.

What about our souls? How often do we think about that part, that important part of who we are? As I prepare for a new direction in life, being a missionary going to Africa, I have been faced with this question- how do I take care of my soul?

SABBATH
It is rest, time out from our work, a break. I think we were meant to have a rhythm to our lives, work then rest, work then rest. God modeled it for us, work for 6 days and then rest for 1. I have learned more about it lately than ever and I want to learn how to do this better.

So, what am I doing to take care of my soul?

~ Schedule one day a week as Sabbath, a day completely off from work

~ On our day off we sleep in , do something fun outside, stay away from our electronic gadgets like email, spend time enjoying some silence away from music and TV, go for a long leisurely walk, find someplace new to have a bite to eat, and take naps if we feel like it.

~ Each of us also needs some different things so Ron often plays golf with a friend while I enjoy some time all alone, reading or writing on my Blog (yes it is relaxing for me).

~ We also set aside time with God; listening, reading, learning, praying, worhiping. Sometimes we do it alone, and sometimes with friends.

What have I have learned so far:

~ I really look forward to it

~ I am more productive

~ I am stronger spiritually

~ I am happier and calmer and laugh more

~ I feel better

Why did it take me so long to learn to make this a priority in my life?

Who knows!!
